LMC in Europe - Erasmus+ Round Up

Last week LMC staff attended a meeting of the Erasmus+ Respect4 project in Chimay, Belgium. Famed for their Trappist beer, Chimay is situated in the Walloon heartland near the French border

The 36 month project is now entering the second phase, interactive learning materials about tolerance, conflict resolution and common values are being developed for teachers that will soon be piloted across the College and with the 8 other international education partners from Belgium, France, Italy, Romania, Hungary, Greece and Norway.

The project meeting incorporated a multiplier event with a presentation by Amnesty International and a specialist in conflict mediation from Chimay. Future Respect4 project meetings will be in France, Hungary and Romania throughout 2017/18 involving both staff and students.

This week the College also played host to 5 international visitors; Serge came from a vocational school in Alicante, Spain specialising in IT & Business, whilst Hanne, Flemming, Karen and Naja represent local government and a large vocational college in Lancaster’s twin city of Aalborg in Denmark. They have been fact finding in a range of vocational and student support areas as part of an Erasmus+ staff exchange with the College. This visit will culminate in new opportunities for student exchanges in the future between the UK, Denmark and Spain and we want to thank staff for their support showcasing their work and best practice.

A busy summer lies ahead with preparations under way for 3 student exchanges to Italy, Bulgaria and Slovakia. 28 LMC students will undertake work experience from across the Sport, Public Services, Business, Travel & Tourism and Hospitality & Catering programmes in June and July for 2 or 3 weeks.

Amongst the several staff trips to Poland, Spain, Malta and Bulgaria for Erasmus+ collaboration partnerships and training, there is also an Aspire trip to Saarbrucken in Germany. 8 lucky Aspire students and staff will meet their counterparts from Italy, Germany, Bulgaria, Spain & Turkey for the Jobtrotter project meeting; involving a visit to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The final meeting of this project will be in 2018 where all the countries will come to Lancaster and share activities, approaches and experiences about life and work across Europe.
